Foreign Nationals Arrested for Illegal Detention in Poipet

Poipet, June 27, 2024 - Two foreign nationals have been apprehended in connection with the illegal detention of a Chinese citizen. The arrests were conducted by the Poipet Municipal Gendarmerie Base Force under the command of Brigadier General Nuon Ninaro, following a complaint lodged by the victim, JIN ZHONG LIN, at 21:00 on June 26, 2024, at THE PARK CITY in Sangkat Phsar Kandal, Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province.

The suspects, identified as YAO FUQIANG (known as Kaing, Seven), 39 years old, Chinese, and HIN MAUNG TUN (alias Avai), 38 years old, from Myanmar, were taken into custody after local security guards reported the incident to authorities. According to Brigadier General Nuon, the security team at THE PARK CITY alerted law enforcement of the illegal detention, prompting an immediate response and subsequent arrests.

Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to being part of a group of seven individuals who traveled from Phnom Penh to Poipet to forcibly relocate the victim, allegedly over a debt dispute. The Municipal Gendarmerie has compiled a case file based on these confessions and forwarded it to the Provincial Gendarmerie Command for further legal proceedings.

The incident underscores ongoing efforts by Cambodian authorities to maintain law and order, particularly in cases involving transnational criminal activities and violations against individuals' rights.
